Why do leaves change color in the fall?
With less light, the trees stop making food in the fall. The chlorophyll (green) goes away. Then we can see the red, orange and yellow colors that essentially were in the leaves all summer. Who Knew!
The best autumn colors come when there’s been:
• A warm, wet spring.
• A summer that’s not too hot or dry.
• A fall with plenty of warm sunny days and cool nights.
